This is personally extremely exciting for me to have caught this rare catfish. The colors were a absolutely beautiful deep black and pearlescent white. I came to find out after a few phone calls that this type of color pattern on a catfish is not extremely uncommon, but still nevertheless it is rarely seen in the wild.
I called our local parks and wildlife biologist Bruce Hysmith to come down and be witness to this strange catch. I tried to donate the fish to Texas Parks and Wildlife, Bass Pro Shops, and Cabelas. I found out that in captivity the Catfish will change back to normal colors. After a few photos I decided to return this oddity back to the bountiful and surprising waters of Lake Texoma.
